JUNE MISSION OF THE MONTH: Red Bird Mission

Red Bird Mission was founded in 1921 in the southeastern corner of Kentucky to provide education and Christian

evangelism ministries to residents of the area. It was started by the women of the Evangelical Church and is one of deep faith in God.

Red Bird Mission was born in answer to prayer. In its early days, Red Bird Mission worked to meet the health care needs of people

in the Red Bird River Valley. The first hospital was built at Beverly in 1928 and the first school building was completed there in

January 1922. In 1968, The Evangelical United Brethren Church united with the Methodist church to become the

United Methodist Church. Many in this newly established denomination continued to support the work of Red Bird Mission.

They have provided education and health care ,and with God’s grace, will continue to do so for another century.

The need remains critical in this isolated, rural distressed area. Chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing and rugged mountainous terrain

provide obstacles to a fuller life for the residents of this area. They need our prayers and our financial support.
