Arriving in Europe on foot or in leaking boats, more than 1 million individuals have fled their homes rather than continue to face daily dangers of bombings and other threats of violence. Meeting the needs of this unprecedented number of refugees has put a strain on local governments, local economies, and social and relief organizations as well as compassion. Rev. Ivan Abrahams, top executive for the World Methodist Council, calls migration “one of the defining issues of the 21st century” and an opportunity for Methodism to honor its historic commitment to those on the margins. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) actively partners with local groups providing humanitarian relief and variety of services to the refugees. Our February mission donations will directly support those efforts.
